Confirmation

is the Sacrament that strengthens us with the Holy Spirit and deepens our commitment to live as faithful witnesses of Christ

The Sacrament of Confirmation completes and strengthens the grace of Baptism. Through Confirmation, the baptized person is more closely united to Christ, strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and called to bear witness to the Christian faith and participate more fully in the mission of the Church.

Schedule

In TAHANAN, the Sacrament of Confirmation is ordinarily celebrated every two years, once a group of approximately 10 to 15 adequately prepared candidates has been formed, or as pastoral circumstances may require.

Requirements for Candidates

  • Be baptized Catholics

  • Participate regularly in Sunday Mass and community life of the Chaplaincy

  • Attend the Confirmation catechesis and faithfully participate in the formation sessions established by the Chaplaincy.

  • Demonstrate an appropriate understanding of the Sacrament of Confirmation, the Holy Spirit, and the responsibilities of living as a Christian.

  • Be willing to continue living and growing in the Catholic faith after receiving Confirmation.

  • Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) as part of the immediate spiritual preparation for Confirmation.

Duration of Preparation

The duration of Confirmation preparation shall be determined by the Chaplain in accordance with the candidate’s age, previous formation, and pastoral circumstances, while respecting the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Madrid.

Parents and Families

Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate actively in the candidate’s preparation. They should support the candidate’s attendance at catechesis, participation in Sunday Mass, prayer, and involvement in the Chaplaincy.

Sponsor

Each candidate should have a sponsor (padrino or madrina) who can accompany the candidate in his or her Christian life.

The sponsor should:

  • Be a practicing Catholic;

  • Have received Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist;

  • Be sufficiently mature to undertake the responsibility of accompanying the candidate;

  • Be committed to living according to the Catholic faith;

  • Be able to serve as a genuine Christian example and spiritual companion.
